WHAT TO EXPECT AT A WOMEN’S GYM IN MEDFORD, OREGON
Walking into a new gym can feel like showing up halfway through a conversation. Everyone else seems to know where to stand, which weights to grab and what the words on the board mean.
If you’ve been looking for strength training for women in Medford but keep hesitating because you don’t know what to expect, start here:
You do not need to know what you’re doing before you walk through the door. That’s why our coaches are there.
BEFORE YOUR FIRST CLASS
After claiming your Free 2-Day Pass, you’ll choose the class that works best for your schedule and receive the information you need before arriving.
Wear clothes you’re comfortable moving in, bring a water bottle and come a few minutes early. This gives you time to see the gym, meet your coach and settle in before class begins.
You don’t need special equipment. You don’t need to study the workout ahead of time. And you definitely don’t need to get in shape first.
WHAT HAPPENS WHEN YOU WALK IN?
Lu or Shantell will be there to welcome you, show you around and answer any questions before class. As the room fills, you’ll meet the women you’ll be training with.
Class may begin with introductions, a quick question or simply a few minutes of conversation before everyone starts moving. It’s an informal way to settle in and connect with the group.
Dropgym is an all-women’s gym, but that doesn’t mean everyone walks in with the same experience. Some women have trained for years. Others are learning how to lift for the first time. Everyone trains together, but the coaching is personal. Our coaches pay attention to your form and breath, then use what they see to help you train better.
WHAT DOES A DROPGYM CLASS LOOK LIKE?
The workout changes from day to day, but each class follows a clear progression.
YOU’LL START BY ARRIVING IN YOUR BODY.
The beginning of class is about getting warm, connecting to your breath and becoming present for the work ahead.
That might include controlled movements, time on the bike or even walking with a kettlebell alongside another member. The goal is to prepare your body while giving your mind a chance to arrive too.
THEN YOU’LL BUILD INTO THE WORK.
From there, the movement becomes more specific to the goal of the day. You may begin adding load or increasing the intensity as your body gets ready for the main workout.
Your coach will explain the movements and give you time to practice. You won’t be expected to look at a workout on the board and figure it out alone.
THIS IS WHERE THE WORK HAPPENS.
The main portion of class may focus on strength, conditioning, upper body, lower body or total-body training.
You will work hard at Dropgym. You will also receive coaching throughout the workout. Your coach can help you choose an appropriate weight, adjust a movement or change your pace without losing sight of the goal.
Welcoming does not mean easy. It means you don’t have to prove that you belong before you can be challenged.
YOU’LL FINISH BY BRINGING THE INTENSITY DOWN.
Some workouts include a final push before class begins to wind down. From there, you may stretch, walk, practice your breath, or take a few minutes to reflect.
Members can record their work in a training journal or use the Lüsha Method app to track their progress over time.
Then class is over, and you’ll know exactly what to expect when you come back.
WHAT IF I CAN’T KEEP UP?
You aren’t there to keep up with anyone else.
Strength training should challenge you, but the right challenge won’t look identical for every woman in the room. Your experience, energy and body all influence how you approach the workout that day.
Our coach’s job is to help you find the version that keeps you engaged in the work. You may use a different weight, adjust the range of a movement or move at another pace. You are still training toward the same goal.
WHAT IF GYMS USUALLY MAKE ME FEEL UNCOMFORTABLE?
Many women arrive at Dropgym after feeling overlooked, intimidated or out of place in traditional gyms. Others are simply tired of trying to build a routine without enough direction or support.
Dropgym was built to offer another way to train: experienced coaching, purposeful workouts, and a community of women who know how to work hard and support each other in the process.
