Meet Jeana Cox

What originally drew you to join DropGym?

I did Camp 17; it was an amazing, intense, fun, and challenging experience. The last few years, though, I’ve just been accepting whatever life throws at me, and I’ve gotten tired of living that way. I want to spend the rest of my life making decisions instead of just reacting. I made a list of goals for life, one of which is to get very strong, and the first people I thought of were Lu and Shantell. I also knew that there were no other people I trusted as much to get me where I wanted to be. I’m not always ready to do what’s asked of me here, usually, I’m scared and want to run away, but the coaches here have a lot more faith in me than I do. I’m borrowing their belief in me while I find my own.

What’s a day in the life with Jeana look like?

On weekdays I am up and working by 6 am as a medical auditor for a health system. After my eight hours, I sign out of work and sign into school, working on getting my degree in Healthcare Administration. After school, I get changed to go to DropGym to drop the stress of the day and get really strong, so I can do it again the next day. At 5:30, I’m driving home in a haze of endorphins, exhaustion, and pride, where I am lucky enough always to have dinner waiting for me. Thanks, mom.

What are you most proud of yourself for facing in the gym?

Panic. I’m a runner and not the cool marathon type but the run away from anything hard type. Lu has taught me a lot about fear, panic, and what’s happening inside of my body when I’m faced with hard things. Now I know that I’m not going to throw up or pass out, it’s just my body and mind wanting to escape. Like Lu says, “It’s hard because it’s hard work. It’s supposed to be hard. You think that because it’s hard that there’s something wrong with you, but there’s not. Finish it”. Now I finish it.

What are 3-4 things that describe the feeling of “JOY” for you?

My daughter, I want to be her when I grow up.

Getting to know my brand-new granddaughter, I can’t wait to watch her experience life.

Art. Seeing paintings by Monet, Dali, and Degas in real life and up close was an experience I’ll never forget. I love all forms of art; crafts, paintings, sculptures, local, famous, street fairs, museums, etc…

What’s your favorite movement? And is there a movement in the gym that has spoken to you or changed how you approach your life?

My favorite movements are things like deadlifts and dumbbell snatches. I like movements that need proper form and take thought and technique on body positioning. But I also love med ball slams because they are repetitive, do not require much thought, and I can get into a groove. Carrying heavy sandbags has helped me face tough challenges at work and school. Knowing I can carry a 60-pound sandbag makes me think I can do anything.

In one year from now, what would like to wake up thinking/feeling every morning?

I want to wake up knowing that I’m not scared of anything. I’m a college graduate. I’m great at my job and I love what I do. I’m brave enough to try any workout. I am the best, most awesome, coolest grandma in the world!

What’s one thing you’d want the woman working out next to you to know about you?

I’m cheering you on in a really quiet (still working on finding my voice) kind of way. When I find my voice, I will let you know that I am in awe of you, your strength, and your bravery.
