Meet Jess Dwyer

What originally drew you to join DropGym?

Well I would have to say fear.. sounds a bit funny, but when you are an anxious person stuck in fear sometimes it's the only thing you respond to. Either fight it or run away from it, and sometimes you have to do that first before you can learn to be motivated by safety, connection, etc. When I chose to start coming to dropgym it was about fighting for the person I knew was inside of me. Someone who was sure of herself, who loved life and loved the woman she was becoming, someone in connection to herself. This was something I saw could be a possibility if I engaged with the process dropgym was inviting women into.

What is one part of yourself you really love and what is one area you want to have more compassion on yourself in?

I really love my ability to really see people deeply and express how far they have come. I am working on having more compassion for the inner perfectionist in me.

What are 3-4 things that describe the feeling of JOY for you?

Ohhhhh goodness, being in nature and observing the animal, insect, and plant life happening.

Making or experiencing a good cup of coffee or food.

Dancing, especially at weddings.

Talking, reading, or writing about life, its meaning, goodness, sadness, the process.

What’s your favorite movement? And is there a movement in the gym that has spoken to you or changed how you approach your life?

Not a specific movement but rather learning different intentions in the movements. Sometimes your goal in to push your limits, another time your goal is to recover, others times your goal is to complete a task. Also how intention can be engaged with the way you are breathing (in your nose then out your nose, in your nose out your mouth, in your mouth out your mouth). This has mirrored and changed the way I engage with life... some days are about recovery, some days maintaining, other days pushing your limits.

Who’s one of your greatest superheroes/ role models?

On a badass note it would be Black Widow, the whole all black motorcycle thing is pretty cool. On a more deep note I have too many to count, I believe deeply that the life we are living and choosing now is what directs the future for our children and those that come after us, so any story of someone choosing to either live a better life or fight for a better life for those that come after us.

What does consistency look like for you?

Having the discipline to make a habit of giving your time to the things and people you value most in life (especially after the idealist version of what you think it looks like fades).

What is one part of yourself you really love and what is one area you want to have more compassion on yourself in?

I really love my ability to really see people deeply and express how far they have come. I am working on having more compassion for the inner perfectionist in me.

What is one thing you'd want the woman working out next to you to know about you?

We are in this together learning to become more ourselves, and if you wanna fight to see your limits I am a good buddy to have around ;)

What is the bravest thing I have ever done?

After I went through a lot of healing from past trauma, the bravest thing I did was to start trusting myself again.

What are three words that describe you when you are feeling safe, loved and like your true self?

Attentive, kind, passionate, curious, welcoming
